Dr Matthew Siggins investigates how pathogens interact with the host to drive infection and disease. His research centres on two key questions: how extracellular bacteria exploit the lymphatic system to disseminate through the body, and whether complex multivariate host responses to pathogens can reveal mechanisms of disease and functional biomarkers.

To answer these critical challenges, his group integrates experimental infection models, innovative imaging, large-scale clinical datasets, and explainable AI. This interdisciplinary approach aims to uncover the mechanisms of pathogen spread and disease, identify functional biomarkers, guide vaccine design, and address the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
