Expertise
Matteo is a Future Fellow in Sustainability Science at the University of Surrey. He is dedicated to investigating human-nature relationships and how the spatial and cultural contexts can guide the regeneration of future sustainable civilizations.
Matteo is driven by questions that have transformative potential to shape a sustainable future. How can our relationships with nature be nurtured and transformed to enable a sustainable future for humanity? How do nature experiences in and out of cities contribute to this transformation? What unspoken shared beliefs, assumptions, and expectations underlie (un)sustainable development? These are some of the questions that drive Matteo’s research, writing, and public speaking.
Matteo’s research is interdisciplinary and solution-oriented, blending sustainability science and systems thinking with environmental psychology and spatial design in multi-method studies. He actively collaborates with artists, educational organizations, architecture firms, and urban planning offices to put his research into practical use, aiming to shift the spatial and cultural foundations that support sustainable social-ecological systems.
