I am PhD student supervised by Dr Mojtaba Soltanlou and Dr Debbie Gooch on a project titled: "AI-guided neuroscientific approach to understand learning difficulties". The project aims to advance the understanding surrounding the behavioural and neurocognitive mechanisms among children with dyslexia. This will facilitate intervention development to support children with dyslexia by contributing toward preventative care to mitigate negative life outcomes (e.g. poorer psychosocial functioning; Huang et al., 2020). The planned research project is to combine artificial intelligence and neuroscientific approaches to facilitate understanding surrounding the neurocognitive mechanisms of mathematics and language learning and development among children with dyslexia. The project will initially perform a literature review to highlight the current theoretical knowledge and additional opportunities to further this project. This project will conduct a longitudinal investigation to examine the changes in the behavioural and neurological responses among children with and without dyslexia during mathematics and language processing tasks. The responses will be captured using a functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) and electroencephalogram (EEG) and we will apply classification and multivariate pattern analyses (MVPA). Additionally, we will be implementing a training study to identify how specific training in calculation skills impacts behavioural and neural processes.
