Gamma ray spectroscopy has been one of our main tools for the study of nuclear structure, and will continue to be so with the newly available beams of radioactive ions from fragmentation and ISOL-based facilities. Examples of {gamma}-ray studies at the end of the LISE3 spectrometer at GANIL are described. The likely programme of {gamma}-ray spectroscopy at facilities such as SPIRAL is discussed.
