This chapter will focus on the ways in which the artist and craftswoman Mary Watts, nee Fraser Tytler (1849-1938), conceptualised and represented the act of reading in diaries, letters, published writings and the arts and crafts she produced. Mary Fraser Tytler married the painter and sculptor G.F. Watts (1817-1904) in 1886.
