Abstract
This research aimed to study residential satisfaction and well-being at urban residences in the UK. The concept of person-environment fit was used to study this (N=107). Person-environment fit was calculated by studying and testing the similarities between the personalities of people and the physical characteristics of their homes. A good fit meant that the homes allowed and reflected the personality of a resident well. The extent to which making changes to a home in terms of personalisation and modification affects person-environment fit and overall satisfaction and well-being at homes was studied. It was found that feelings of satisfaction and positive affect at home was explained by person-environment fit. Residential satisfaction and well-being were also significantly influenced by personalisation of the living spaces and the resident’s perceived ability to make changes to their homes.
