Abstract

dialogue femininity gendered norms media literacy parents support teachers
In this article, we reflect on a gender transformative framework for disrupting gendered dynamics of influencer culture for girls. Drawing on a girl-informed, participatory life course approach to championing girls aged 9 to 15 and iterative advisory board meetings with practitioners, we explore the methodological value of co-reflective spaces for supporting girls to navigate influencer culture. We argue that in-situ co-reflexivity can be used to center girls’ agency and critical literacy while addressing structural dynamics of femininity, aspiration, and digital visibility. We contribute to methodological debates on participatory and practitioner-engaged research as tools for gender transformative change.
