Abstract

Coastal area Monopile Offshore wind turbine Site-specific design
The seismic performance of monopile foundations for offshore wind turbines (OWTs) plays a crucial role in ensuring the stability and safety of these structures in seismic-prone regions. This study investigates the site-specific seismic response of monopiles supporting offshore wind turbines with capacity of 5 MW at the coastal regions of Gujarat and Mumbai, India. The research involves detailed numerical simulations considering the geotechnical characteristics and seismic conditions unique to these Mumbai coastal areas. The monopile designs are evaluated for their dynamic behaviour under seismic loading, including potential soil–structure interactions, to assess their suitability and resilience. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of guidelines for the seismic design of monopiles in the context of India’s emerging offshore wind energy sector.
