Abstract
Introduction: Osteoporosis is a preventable disease that mostly affects women. Many people of all ages appear to be unaware of the risk factors and preventive behaviours. Osteoporosis prevention requires enhancing knowledge and awareness of female in adolescent and adulthood. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of educational program on female high school student' knowledge related to osteoporosis prevention in Iran. Methods: In this randomized controlled trial study, 600 females students in high school selected by cluster sampling method and allocated to control and intervention groups randomly. Ethical consideration applied. There were no significant differences between two groups in their knowledge before intervention. Our intervention was an education program in two sessions. Each session takes 105 min and contains; giving face to face lecture, providing booklet and physical exercise. After 2 weeks data was collected by questioner and self reporting method. Questioner has three parts such as demographic, health status and knowledge and awareness. Validity and reliability of the instrument was examined. Descriptive and analytical statistic (t-test) and SPSS software used for data analysis. Discussion: Based on results there was significant differences between mean of knowledge score and awareness in two groups after intervention. (P<0.001) Conclusion: Education program is a good way to increase the student's knowledge for preventing osteoporosis. For this mean educational program would be beneficial.
