Abstract
Veterinarians often see that following veterinary recommendations, or exhibiting ‘compliance’, is a responsibility that rests solely with the client. There are also common misconceptions that clients wilfully ignore veterinary recommendations, or that cost of veterinary care is the main important barrier. In reality, there are many, varied factors that lead to non-compliance. There are also many positive steps the veterinary team can take to support the clients in understanding, trusting and remembering a veterinary care plan. In this paper we will explore practical ways in which veterinary staff can play an active and significant role in helping clients to care for their animals.
