Abstract

Computer & Video Games Computer Programming Education

This keynote lecture given at the TIGA Education Conference 2026 (Birmingham City University, 3 July 2026), looked at teaching techniques using practice-led examples and demo projects made in game engines. Teaching in games design needs to align with industry, and one of the ways this can happen is by incorporating content related to modern game engines such as Unity or Unreal. When actually teaching with these game engines, a good approach is to create bespoke game demos and examples which provide a basis for live demonstration and discussion. This talk will discuss a series of these projects, and consider aspects of pedagogy.
