Abstract
In the Reveal deepened the interrogation by expanding its somatic and spatial dimensions to focus on dance histories of the present moment. It re-invented choreographic gesture from Retrieving the Sylph and Unwrapped for three dimensional performance space without proscenium arch [See 3.2, 3.4] and integrated the 'choreographer as dancer' in the dance form and its performance. The work was developed for Taking Place, The Facility 3, International Performance as Research symposium at London Metropolitan University in April 2007. Movement and sonic material were explored through collaborative studio research and integrated technical principles studied in Wood's class. Choreographic tasks employed ballet principles of spatial geometry (en place/en face/en croix/en dehors,dedans) to investigate the notion of the dancer's somatic experience as tied to a material sense of particular 'place' [ 3.1] and the relationship of the imagined sense of geographical place with the dancer's square [3.3]. Overarching musical and choreographic structures were developed from a place of immersion in the dance. Audience commented on "liberation of space", "multiple narratives", "audience as participant".
