Abstract
'Analytical Engine', 10 minutes
by Tom Hall and Katrina Porteous
Katrina Porteous (voice) and 4 channel audio.
'Analytical Engine' takes its name from an electronic hardware invention of computer music pioneer Peter Zinovieff’s from 1974. The immersive composition is based around an archive recording of Zinovieff reading his 'From a Diary: Electronic Music', a presentation from 1978, and on the text of an unpublished poem by Porteous called ‘A Museum Piece’. The composition presents spoken word fragments from both texts against an immersive musical setting.
