Abstract
In addition to reducing acoustic noise and highfrequency torque ripple, the presence of skew in an induction motor produces an axial variation in the saturation in the machine. The authors present a technique for including the effect of this variation in the calculation of the equivalentcircuit parameters. Results indicate that the axial variations in saturation due to skew can have a considerable impact on the starting performance of an induction motor. © 1999 IEEE.
