Abstract
This paper investigates means of accommodating rotor spiders in reduced rotor models in an averaged condition. Comparisons are made between models with modifications that allow for spiders and more extensive models in which these features are more realistically represented. The spider arms present an alternative path for the flux. This diversion of flux at low slips reduces the core back saturation. The consistent presence of the spider is done using either a single slot model with a segment of spider arm of a multi-slot model with at least one arm present. The multi-slot model takes more time to run than the single-slot model.
