Abstract
The popularity of feeding dogs and cats a raw diet has increased markedly in recent years. Broad claims of health benefits have been made, although accompanying evidence is typically weak or anecdotal. There are documented microbiological and nutritional risks associated with raw feeding that have elicited concerns among both veterinary and public health professionals. This article outlines the disadvantages and the perceived benefits of raw feeding, and suggests approaches to engage with clients who have chosen to give their pet a raw food diet.
