Abstract
The high-spin structure of
79Rb was studied via the
24Mg(
58Ni, 3p) reaction at 190 MeV, using a Compton suppressed germanium detector array and the Daresbury Recoil Separator. The two signatures of a positive-parity, decoupled

quasiparticle band were followed up to spins

and

, respectively. Similarly the two signatures of a negative-parity, decoupled (

) band were identified up to the same spin values. A weakly populated level sequence with the character of a coupled quasi-rotational band is tentatively suggested. The band structures are analyzed in terms of the cranked shell model.
