Abstract
This paper investigates the use of simulation tools for business education, including Management School education and managerial training. The paper provides an overview of the need for non-traditional tools for learning, and the importance of simulation in learning. A particular focus is placed on the need for openness of these tools, aiming to promote their use and re-use. These needs were confirmed by the results of a brief study on simulation tools. An example of open simulation content provision is given by the OpenScout portal, which provides access to open educational resources in the area of management education and training. OpenScout offers a collection of resources from multiple sources located in different European countries. Initial experience from this initiative of collecting open simulation content demonstrated the limited availability of such type of resources. © 2012 IEEE.
