Abstract
Chemical examination of steroidal sapogenins has elucidated their relationship to the steroids. Their molecular conformation has been investigated as far as C[23]. The difference between 'normal' and 'iso' sapogenins has been suggested as dependent on the arrangement at C[23] and C[25]. The complete configurations were based on the most reasonable stereochemical models. The present x-ray examination of the structure of diosgenin iodoacetate confirms the accepted chemical structure for the more stable steroidal sapogenins and assigns atomic coordinates within the unit cell.
