Abstract
Limited psychological support is provided to parents of children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). A high prevalence of behavioural and/or emotional difficulties experienced by these children, and the general emotional distress experienced by parents caring for their unwell child impacts the family as a whole. This thesis aimed to address this gap through the development of a programme providing relevant emotional support and coping skills for parents. Part A of this portfolio presents an empirical paper on the co-production of a parental psychoeducation programme with parent of children with DMD. The results of this co-production provided the structure and content of the programme, as well as highlighted key themes regarding the programme reception, parental wellbeing, and importance of support and community building. Part B presents an empirical paper assessing the feasibility and acceptability of this programme. The findings suggested that the 6-week online parental psychoeducation programme co-produced with parents of children with DMD is feasible and acceptable.
