Abstract
The European Commission's proposed AI Act stands as a pivotal initiative in the quest to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) across all sectors, with a particular emphasis on the rapidly evolving field of transportation. Central to the effective implementation of this groundbreaking regulation is the development and adoption of comprehensive standardization frameworks. This article delves deep into the intricate interplay between co-regulation, standardization, and certification within the framework of the AI Act, examining their collective role in fostering responsible and trustworthy AI deployment across the European Union. By scrutinizing the transportation sector in particular, this paper meticulously maps the existing AI standardization landscape, thoroughly analyzes key trends, and identifies critical gaps that demand immediate attention.
