Abstract
Nels Cline is a world-leading guitarist who is just at home in a small NY experimental club as he is on stage in a stadium as the lead guitarist with Alternative Rock band Wilco. Rolling Stone listed him as one of twenty ‘new guitar gods’ and in the top 100 of all time. In this interview with John McGrath, Cline reflects on his discovery of guitar effect technology and how it has shaped his musical palette over time. Having recorded on over 200 albums in a plethora of genres, Cline sees the present moment as being particularly fruitful for both the guitar and sonic experimentation.
