This chapter discusses the working principles of various microbial electrochemical systems and the economic analysis and life cycle assessment methods for microbial electrochemical systems. A case study on microbial fuel cells demonstrates the effectiveness of the methods. Adaptable modeling and analyses equations are shown that can be applied to scale up from laboratories to process systems.
