Abstract
This chapter reports on a scoping review of the literature on risk and crisis communication during the COVID-19 pandemic in linguistically and culturally diverse communities. Three hundred studies were screened against inclusion and exclusion criteria. Forty studies were included in the review, and underwent thematic analysis in terms of availability, accessibility, acceptability and adaptability. Five themes were identified with regard to the role of technologies, top-down, bottom-up and hybrid approaches to risk and crisis communication in linguistically and culturally diverse communities, as well as gaps in the literature with regard to the quality and appropriateness of translated materials. The chapter concludes with a set of recommendations for commissioners of translation services, as well as professional translators and interpreters.
