Abstract
With air traffic anticipated to double by 2037 (IATA, 2018), a persistent challenge to aviation businesses is the talent gap. The complex and uncertain conditions surrounding the industry are pushing stakeholders across the whole air transport system to cooperate in preparation for the future and in addressing the deficit in aviation professionals. Cooperation mainly aims at providing solutions to overcome obstacles in recruiting, engaging and retaining the talent needed to sustain the growing operations. However, there is a rising call for more focus on the managerial aspects of the aviation business. That means the leadership competence and business acumen of the aviation executives that are in charge of managing the investments and overseeing the business operations across the whole spectrum of the air transport system.
This chapter looks into how the growing demand for aviation professionals is driving the cooperation among international aviation regulatory agencies, operators and educational institutions. It also discusses the impact of the transformation in training needs and in the learning preferences of today’s executives, leading to shifts from the conventional learning paradigms into value co-creation models. Additionally, the chapter observes the benefits of introducing technology into aviation training portfolios to engage more stakeholders across the learning value chain.
